Event: Do You Have Pain With Intercourse?

Pain during intercourse is a symptom of pelvic pain. Pelvic pain can occur in anyone, including women who:

  • –are postpartum
  • –have never had a baby
  • –are menopausal or peri-menopausal
  • –have pelvic floor tightness
  • –have orthopedic issues such as hip pain, low back pain, SI-joint pain or GI-issues

Pelvic pain often is associated with other conditions, such as endometriosis, PCOS, painful bladder syndrome, IBS, etc. There is also an emotional component to pelvic/sexual pain that is important to address as well.

This is a workshop on managing the physical and psychological aspects of pelvic pain and pain during intercourse. Pelvic floor physical therapist Elayne Geba (PT, DPT, WCS) and sex therapist Heather Davidson (Ed.M., M.A.) will be offering this event to help women understand and treat pelvic pain.

Elayne will discuss the physical aspects of pelvic pain, including:

  • –exercises and stretches that can help relieve pain
  • –lubricants that can help with painful intercourse
  • –the best positions and breathing techniques during intercourse to prevent pain
  • –how addressing the inner core can help pelvic/sexual pain

Heather will talk to you about the mental and emotional aspects of dealing with pelvic pain, including:

  • –the mind/body connection with pelvic/sexual pain
  • –the link to trauma and pelvic pain
  • –techniques you can try at home
  • –how counseling can support your recovery
