What Our Clients Say

FAQs

Why is postpartum physical therapy important?
For expectant mothers, pregnancy can be magical in many ways, but it’s also undoubtedly tough on the body. The pregnancy, birth, and post-partum period are commonly associated with various musculoskeletal and nerve conditions, and these can persist long after birth. However, professional postpartum physical therapy in Philadelphia can greatly alleviate these issues in a natural, drug-free way. The sooner we can treat emerging issues, the better the results.
We use the Integrated Systems Model (ISM) for Pain & Disability (Lee & Lee, 2007). This is a proven physical therapy framework that treats every patient as a highly integrated, complex individual, focusing on the mind-body connection for optimal results.

Postpartum Recovery

We support our clients with effective healing after childbirth, helping with conditions such as
pelvic pain,
diastasis recti,
prolapse,
c-section or tear complications, and muscular strains. Our PTs are highly skilled, knowledgeable, and empathetic; we understand the physical and emotional challenges of the postpartum period, and many of us are parents too!

Postpartum Pain and Nerve Conditions

Pregnancy can lead to nerve pain conditions such as thoracic outlet syndrome,
Piriformis syndrome‬, and
Sacroiliac joint pain‬ (which feels like sciatica – another common issue during and after pregnancy).
Physical therapy can greatly ease nerve palsy or weakness, naturally and without drugs or surgical interventions.

Musculoskeletal Strains

Neck pain and
back pain are common after childbirth, particularly post-partum, due to systemic imbalances (challenged further by feeding and carrying). Additionally, new parents often suffer from conditions such as
carpal tunnel syndrome,
rib pain‬, and even plantar fasciitis; all of which we treat.

Joint Pains

Joint pain can occur during and after pregnancy, and conditions such as coccydynia‬ and sacroiliac joint pain‬ (which feels like sciatica – another common issue during and after pregnancy) can become debilitating.

Pelvic Pain

Many new moms have a degree of
pelvic pain and pelvic floor dysfunction, including
incontinence and pelvic girdle pain (or pubic symphysis dysfunction), which can be incredibly painful and lead to issues with everyday movement. Our
pelvic floor therapy services accelerate your healing journey.

Postpartum Rejuvenation

No, we don’t do aesthetics here, but we do help our
postpartum clients tackle everything from prolapse (bladder, bowel, and vaginal), to abdominal wall splits (diastasis recti), and leg and vulvar varicosities‬ (more commonly known as varicose veins!) We can also help with issues such as pain during intercourse, bowel dysfunction, and
C-section recovery.

As well as 100% hands-on manual therapy (which is by far the best kind of physical therapy available, and the most advanced for practitioners to master), we offer a wide range of complementary and holistic physical therapy services at our Philadelphia clinics.

Where appropriate, these can enhance results and accelerate healing outcomes, and help our patients to become strong, mobile, and fully functional as they transition from the postpartum period to active parenthood! These services include the Graston Technique, cold laser therapy, dry needling, hypopressives, medical therapeutic yoga, trigger point release, and visceral mobilization therapy.

At Rebalance Physical Therapy in Philadelphia, we completely understand how emotionally and physically demanding the postpartum period is, especially if you have birth injuries, physical pain or discomfort, or a condition that you’re trying to manage along with your new baby!

Our physical therapists are supportive, empathetic, and hugely empowering. Many of us, including our founder, Hina Sheth, are parents too, and we know how overwhelming the postpartum period can be! You will feel instantly relaxed, grounded, and taken care of when you visit Rebalance PT.

As busy parents, we do everything from lifting children to sitting at desks while we work. Every movement requires the body to be fully integrated and working in perfect harmony. When a patient has a pain or limitation in one area, we see how the body is working – or not working – together as it should. By assessing these connections, we can understand where treatment is needed and apply it accordingly.
There are two Rebalance PT offices in Philadelphia: our Narberth office/mainline and our center city Philadelphia. At Rebalance PT in Philadelphia, we’re committed to offering the best possible physical therapy services to our patients. We ask that all of our clients follow some familiar policies to help everyone get the best from our team. This means being on time and giving 48 hours’ notice for cancellations, so we can offer up the appointment to another patient. We also ask that patients turn their cell phones off (or put them on vibrate, as we do understand that new mums want to feel connected for any emergency calls).

Our friendly team is on hand when you need us! Call on 267-282-1301, email info@rebalancept.com, pop into one of our clinics if you’re passing, or book a free 15-minute consultation online – whatever suits you best.
