Pelvic Floor Therapy in Philadelphia: Regain Strength, Function & Confidence

Rebalance Physical Therapy PTs treat pelvic floor dysfunction quickly and effectively. Regain strength, confidence, and function with pelvic floor therapy in Philadelphia.

What is Pelvic Floor Therapy?

The pelvic floor is a complex and supportive network of muscles, tendons, and ligaments that help to support our inner organs, including the uterus, bladder, and bowels. These play a huge role in our daily lives; controlling how easily and effectively we can go to the toilet, allowing us to feel physically strong, and supporting a healthy sex life.

But there are so many different pelvic floor conditions that can arise through childbirth, ageing, sport, injury, or even genetic predispositions. At Rebalance Physical Therapy in Philadelphia, our experts offer pelvic health therapy to treat everything from pelvic organ prolapse and urinary incontinence to birth injuries and sexual dysfunction after pregnancy.

What Our Clients Say

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the pelvis get damaged?

The pelvis can become damaged in many ways, including childbirth, sport, and injury. Other conditions cause pelvic dysfunction as a secondary symptom. Don’t suffer in silence or assume you just need to “power on” – you don’t! Whatever the cause of pelvic pain and dysfunction, the friendly team at Rebalance PT is here to help.

Our physical therapy services in Philadelphia get to the heart of the issues to understand the best treatment. Your therapist will assess your body as a whole, interconnected system, and devise a highly tailored treatment plan to deliver natural, gentle, yet effective results.
Our clients are amazed at how quickly we can bring noticeable improvements to pelvic pain conditions with drug and surgery-free therapies. Our pelvic floor therapies may be surprisingly gentle and precise, but they are designed to deliver profound benefits.

Our services for pelvic floor therapy in Philadelphia include trigger point massage, pelvic floor exercises, myofascial release, Dry Needling, therapeutic medical yoga, and hypropressives, depending on your diagnosis.

Your supportive pelvic health therapist will work with you individually to assess the best treatments for your specific needs and empower you at each step as you progress toward a fully functioning, pain-free life.

Firstly, we do everything possible to help our patients relax. Our offices are private and warm, and your examination room will be a comfortable space. We know how awkward it can feel to have a private exam of your pelvic area, and rest assured, your physical therapist is there to offer the highest standards of care, dignity, and professionalism.

Typically, a pelvic floor evaluation lasts approximately 50 – 55 minutes, although more complex cases may require assessment over two sessions. We will always make sure you remain comfortable, and we don’t rush our patients.

We may use manual or digital biofeedback to assess how your pelvic muscles are working. Don’t worry, it’s completely painless, and our clients often find it very interesting!

We also conduct a comprehensive musculoskeletal evaluation of all relevant joints and body areas to create a complete, whole-body picture. Your therapist will gently and slowly check for any tenderness and trigger points, and assess your flexibility, coordination, and strength.

We always check for consent, explain what we are doing, and make sure you are comfortable. If you are very symptomatic (for example, experiencing chronic pain in one area), we may defer a hands-on assessment to a point where your symptoms have subsided.

Based on the full evaluation, your Rebalance physical therapist can then create a full and tailored pelvic floor therapy plan that specifically targets your needs and goals.

Your doctor or nurse is suspecting that you may have a problem with the muscles of the pelvic floor. A physical therapist specializes in treating muscles and the pelvic floor is just another group of muscles that are located inside the pelvis. A physical therapist that specializes in pelvic floor disorders and dysfunction can evaluate these muscles further to determine why you might be having a problem and if treatment can help.

Due to the holistic and extensive hands on nature of our treatment, we are considered out of network with all insurances.

The reason for this is being in network with insurances does not allow us to practice in a manner that is BEST for our patients. Insurance companies often dictate what can and cannot be done during treatments. They also do not cover things such as dry needling and other modalities that are often time essential for our clients to get better. Our goal is to put the client first so we can get you results fast.

Pelvic floor therapy programs are highly individualized, depending on the underlying cause and severity of symptoms. After your first evaluation, your therapist will tell you the likely duration of your treatment program. A typical schedule involves our patients visiting one of the Rebalance Physical Therapy offices in Philadelphia once a week for 50-55 minutes, until they experience at least a 75% improvement.

Absolutely! If you want to move fully, freely, and without pain or compromise, you need a strong pelvic floor to support your entire core function. Additionally, minor pelvic floor issues can lead to more serious orthopedic and pelvic problems over time, as many conditions are progressive without treatment.
